Do we know any advantages of one technology over the other yet?
I'd assume legs just give more clearance from the ground, cannot see why tracks would be more effective other than they may be more damage resistant or cheaper, then..
In the dev streams it looks like legs are pretty fast and I think a good way to balance it would be to have legs move slower than tracks/wheels. So the pros and cons would be something like,
Legs;
Pros: high off the ground, can go up steep terrain, can step on buildings and crush them.
Cons: expensive, easily break apart, slow moving.
Wheels/Tracks;
Pros: fast moving, cheap, sturdy.
Cons: have trouble going up steep terrain.
So that's kind of what the heavy cannons are for. But I can see how there's kind of a gap. I quite liked the deck-mounted ones that got modded in a while ago, so I might copy that.
Also, been working on a landkrusier Cannon, slowly, just gotta do the Light maps when I have the enthusiasm. Then I just gotta do some little Wirblewind turrets...
It... Seems a bit odd to have muzzle loading cannons when the peoples of this setting are otherwise mostly up to WWI tech. Did they just have an enormous surplus of muzzle loaders and a pack rat mentality?
So the official tech level is starting in 1850 and getting as far as WWI/II in some cases. So the breech-loading large cannons are a technological step ahead of the standard ones.
Well, the large cannons and suspendium cannons are decntly sized. Both the suspendium cannon and the large cannon have a barrel length of, like, 4.5 - 5 metres, if my assumption that a single pixel is 14cm x 14cm is correct (and all the proportions in the game I tested it on actually supported that claim pretty well, which I explained in another topic. Human height, size of weapons, size of rooms, trees... All off those make a decent amount of sense with my assumption.).
Still considerably smaller than some of the largest battleship cannons which could have a barrel length of up to 20 metres, but not that far off from the cannon in the pic which I would say is somewhere around 7-8 metres.
So, yeah. For what you're trying to build, the current weapons are not quite there, but not THAT small.
Some gigantic weapons would definitely be nice, though.
The imperial cannon from the modding example? I'd say that's about 12 metres. I'd definitely love to see that thing added to vanilla.

Tracks Pro: You can make a Landkruzer 1000.
Air Lord, Engineering Corps
Yup, definitely going to make that!
-edit- But im gonna need some really big ass tracks and maybe some battleship turrets!
Commander
Zarkonnen really needs to add cannons more advanced than fucking muzzle loaders.
Captain
woah no need to cuss
(though I do agree that there should should be something a little faster than a rifle but more powerful than one)
Commander
I mean like the cannons you would see in WW1; Field guns.

Wirblewind and landkrusier cannons.. Dang it WolvrNZ, I was using this game to try and get away from my addiction to WWII era vehicles!
Commander
But Mods aren't supported and Wolvr has no links. However, thanks Wolvr!
Warrant Officer
Aren't the cannons and rifles breech loaders, not muzzle?
Aerial Emperor
The big cannons are breech, the small ones are muzzle.

Yeah, which reminds me: I should update the unit conversion so 1px = 14 cm. :D

Would legs need something like a pressure tank to make them stay standing? Like the steam from a coal burning engine.
Commander, Engineering Corps
Looking at the pictures, it looks like the modules that are for land based movement are them-selfs some form of engine.
