I think that it would be so cool. It would have the building elements and modules like Airships but be 3 dimensional and first-person like GoI. You could be a crew member or a captain and control the whole ship and give orders or just do certain tasks throughout the ship. The way I see it in my mind it may be more like a weird Airships Simulator 2016 but hey, I am obsessed with simulators.
So guys and Gals tell me what you think. Would you like to see that as much as I would?
What's the point? If you want first-person airship combat, play Guns of Icarus. If you want RTS airship combat, play Airships. I don't think the building aspect of this hypothetical crossover game would affect the first person gameplay - the bulk of this hypothetical game - in the slightest.
Tight airships, small crews, and frantic multiplayer matches are part of Guns of Icarus strengths. Without tight airships, battles would be less frantic because players would stick to an area. Without small crews, the player would feel insignificant. And in first person, frantic multiplayer is much more exciting than methodical singleplayer.
However, if there is ever an Airships II: Conquer the Skies Again, making it a 3D RTS would be a great way to shake things up.
And I think there's potential for a Planetside 2 style airships game, (like Guns of Icarus, but with very large crews and big airships, with many players logged in at once) Lots of players would be stuck doing menial tasks, but with everyone pitching in it would be significant. However, I imagine that many players wouldn't even get to see the action.
I said Gun of Icarus just to get my point across (and because it's the only 3D airships battling game I know of). I just came up with the idea because on one of his dev streams Zark talked about how he had though about making Airships 3D because in some cases the rotation of ships would be easier than flipping.
I have not played Guns of Icarus and only know of the gameplay from other youtubers and I have never seen planetside gameplay but from your description it sounds like a better example of what I was going for.
REALLY what I was going for would be a 3D RTS airships and I just wanted to use Guns of Icarus as an example

So Sky Nations partially fulfils your desires here - it's basically Minecraft meets airships.
