At this point in the development, I need a graphical artist to complement my work on the game. While I can produce pixel art for the in-game graphics, I can't create high-quality character portraits or complex scenes. This is where you - or someone you know - comes in.
What I need from you:
What I don't need from you:
What I'm offering is your choice of:
You will also be listed as an artist in the game credits.
Interested? Email me with samples of your work, your preferred form of compensation/rates, and some general info about yourself.
Edit Being more specific with what I need:
Style-wise, I'm up for anything that you think can mesh with the existing art style of the game. It doesn't have to imitate the art, just not clash horribly. High-res pixel art could work, so could digital airbrush, or vector illustrations. Crew portraits should be realistic or semi-realistic, so not super-stylized or cartoonish. The game sprites have a colour scheme that gets modified by the lighting conditions.
I guess in some ideal magical world, if someone is able to create unit portraits with no baked-in shading and a normal map, that could be hooked into the lighting engine for some very cool visuals. But that's hardly necessary.
Might suggest that you post the color scheme here?
Might i make a suggestion for whoever gets the job? Might i suggest that you draw everything to resemble a 19th century photograph?
Perhaps the mission illustrations could be semi-realistic, resembling 19th century photographs.
If the portraits are going to be static and not animated, they could resemble 19th century photographs as well, but put cropped out crewmen all around, like the picture is taken from a crew photo.
And the splash screens could be high-contrast/impressionist style digital paintings.
Just some ideas for anyone who might be the artist.
Commander, Engineering Corps
Would the portraits be full-body, half-body (like this),
Or just facial?
Would you kindly
Perhaps generals/captain could get a half body portrait, and regular crew members only get a "copped group photo" face portrait?
Got anyone on the job yet?
How goes the hunt for a new artist?
Also, when art-hunting, do you use an elephant gun, a shotgun, or a fowling piece?
I wonder if we could use real old portrait instead of Art. I would love to have my ancestors in a game. The same for all players. We could all upload some old portrait of people from 1850-1930 and then make a selection.
