As the title suggest, there is an extremely easy way to win combat and it goes like this: Build a small airship and attach a rocket to the front, make sure it has quite a big amount of ammo, but try and not make the cost of it higher then 200, make a fleet of about 100 of these and then attack, as long as your rival didn't do the exact same thing as you, you should win.
the only things i have to say on this are A: LAG and B: you could do the same thing with many of the weapons in the game and still 'win' though i have seen that boarding is sometimes much more effective with small, fast craft.
There's definitely a "best way" to utilize different offensive methods, which is a good thing. It allows a player to attempt to perfect their designs that way.
I've found Rockets are most effective bundled in large amounts on a single craft.
Problem is the explosions they cause - generates lag. Large numbers of ships, that generates latency as well. Another huge problem is against that strat: could probably use something like an "Anchor" to just ram your ships for cheaper than 200, and your rockets are slow, they are aiming for where my Ramming ships *were, not where they are: on top of you.
Loaded with ammo? Kaboom! - no ship to ship damage, on to the next one.
Capturing isn't the best counter strat to this, nor structures. The capture ship would lose luster mid-battle, the structure would be idle and a victim of the barrage.

Air Admiral
Should I point out that if you have the resources to make a hundred of them, you probably should have won already?
Commodore
This type of deployment makes for nightmarish multiplayer scenarios.
This is probably why the "1 Ship" option exists.

True, but rockets are probably one of the most effective
