The "Evacuate Lift and Propulsion" command would be a button alongside the other ship commands. When pressed, the ship grounds, and all crewmen in propeller modules, and suspendium modules leave. These crewmen fight fires/repair/take people to sickbay instead. Repair crews stop trying to fix them (maybe?), but fire teams still fight fires there so that it doesn't spread. Enemy ships would still shoot like normal, because they don't know parts were evacuated.
Basically, when a ship is getting battered and is about to loose lift and propulsion anyways, you could evacuate those sections so that you don't loose crew as well.
Or you could just move those ships to the reserve I guess...
You could press the button again to re-man those sections when things got under control.
I feel though that Ground ship should have extra's like taking rifles (from either the gun rifle or a later implemted armory or something) and storm the defenses and use them to target the other ships.
@Iwillbenicetou: I can still see the propellers and suspendium modules being manned in that situation. The crewmembers left could fly the ship around and provide cover for the ground marines.
Some sort of "Ditch Airship" command might be be good for what you're suggesting. Or to save crewmembers about to be killed in a dead airship. If the command modules are gone, some crewmembers could flee of their own accord.

Any thoughts on this?
Aerial Emperor
So this is sort of what "Ground Ship" does. In a grounded ship that has landed, the priority of manning lift and propulsion is extremely low.
Midshipman
Certain airship designs could greatly benefit for uncontrolled descent on command.
You know the type.

Also are me and Slimy the only Commander's?

Yeah, especcially when there's actually limited resources, like money. So you can save your crewman and save resources. That's good.
