Here's my suggestion for a new game mode which could be described as a sort of "Adventurer" mode.
Basically, you are not in control of any cities. Instead, you find yourself on a vast map of cities and sites interacting with eachother independently. You can be anything from a mercenary to a crude merchant delivering goods or important people from one city to another (enter the cargo bay and passenger modules?). Or you could just be a plain pirate. Eventually, you will have to do things like expand your HQ, hire captains that let you have several independent fleets etc. until your company becomes a force to be reckoned with.
An important aspect of the game would also be intrigue and scandal, perhaps bribing yourself into a monopoly deal with certain cities and regions or hiring pirates to sabotage your competitors. Perhaps you could build your own pirate city on a remote island or perhaps you will manage to be elected as mayor?
I feel like the current airship system would be ideal for this kind of gametype. What are your ideas?
Alternative names could be:
Adventurer mode, Vagabond mode, Destiny mode...
OK, this sounds pretty cool, and I am totes going to crib at least part of it. I definitely want there to be a ramp-up to full "controlling multiple fleets" state also to introduce people to how the game actually works!
