First of all, congrats as usual, great work on the new graphics and fixes.
To improve the gaming experience in campaign mode, I think 2 relatively simple behaviors could be introduced:
If a fleet attacks a city with no defending ships or building, it should trigger automatic conquest instead of switching to battle mode just for a few seconds
Especially painful on large maps: there should be a bit of "cool-down" in between AI city attacks, to give the player the chance to issue a couple of orders before been thrown into another battle screen.
I like the idea of that though there should be some way of telling when you lose a city, currently when an enemy attacks a city without defenses than you know what happened. But if the cities are just are instantly captured than you might have have missed the attack and have no idea what happened.
Secondly I personally like large maps and only play on them because of the difficulty. With a couple dozen enemy nation attacking at once it makes the game more difficult. Though i do like the idea of the cool-down so maybe it should be an option.
Agreed on the auto-conquest thing. Not quite sure how the cooldown would work - the combat happens when the ships arrive at the city. There is a cooldown between how often each enemy AI considers attacking something, but that doesn't necessarily translate into nicely spaced-out fights.
