In the multiplayer battles before they start you can either select a 200, 500, 1000, 5000, or 10,000 battle (and have the option to have it 1v1 or not).
I keep having the problem of trying to start a 5000 battle with a specific fleet in mind but having it go over budget by a measly 20-100 generic-game credits and i don't want to have to bolster my fleet to make it 10,000 vs 10,000 credit battles and im sure other people might be having the same problem.
Instead of having fixed choices in the settings i would love to see a slider concerning the amount of resources you can bring into a battle to enable mroe control over multiplayer battles!
At first I thought it is a nice idea. I had the same trouble after update - all my ships were 10-50 credits more than the limit.
But after a minute of thinking, I decided that it would be cheating. When instead of 5000 you make a 5030 limit, you have a particular ship/fleet in mind. While your enemy may be having 5040 or 5020 ship. And this is disbalance.
An art of engineering (in real life in particular) is to create a strong machine that will be right 2000 or right 5000 credits, not 2001, not 5020. Nobody care if the plane will fly better with a little bit better engine - you have a limit - plan accordingly. (I study at avitional university, so u can trust me on that)
So. Why stright limits are really cool - it is the only (or one of few) strategical element in game. You have to plan your fleet coin by coin and that way you will create the best ships.
(to Zark) You see, Z, if I updated my DS 5000, you would not stand a chance yesterday ;P my fault anyway...
Yeah i can see why it would be a unfair to have a a multiplayer battle tailored to specific ship(s) that go overbudget slightly so i strongly agree with you on that one!
But having ships that go well over the 10K spectrum versing other 10k+ ships
-because i like to push games to the limit- is kinda hard to do in a multiplayer match (mainly because its impossible right now)..
Oh... Then it should not be called slider, but "push the limits further"
I never thouht about that because even at 5000 I can play ok only if there is 1 ship on each side. Well... If Zark thinks game engine will work fine over 10000, it's up to him to make a wider range.
BTW, I once played 10000 vs 10000 - I had 2 ships, and I'm not sure how many ships had my enemy coz I never saw them all... Coz my FPS was about 0.2... Sometimes it just froze and I was watching screenshots of the battle ^_^
When I thought I won, I saw 2 large ships at the other side of the screen and my DS 5000 were like 2 colanders... But I won. Magic? "Hell of a design" he said =D
Yea, I like to tell stories about my best battles =P
Yeah, I agree with Musickiller that having a slider would let people play stupid games where they make a ship worth exactly 1917 gold and set the slider to that.
Bigger battles: I should revisit that. Used to be that even on fast machines, things would start bogging down severely once you had like 50k worth of airship in the battle, but I've put in a bunch of improvements since then...

OK, this is a quick and simple one.
