Had an idea i thought i had to absolutely share, also if this topic seems ill organized that is probably just sleep loss and i will edit it later, anyways to the topic!
Breaching cables in a nutshell: A ranged weapon about the same size as a Gatling gun that fires a harpoon like bolt with a cable attached to a drum on the gun emplacement of the airship. If the bolt strikes a target and does not break back wall the harpoon acts as a normal bullet doing little damage, but if the bolt does break a section of back wall it tethers a cable from the airship that fired the weapon to the breach in the enemy.
The tether will constantly shorten until the two ships are very close and are within boarding distance, this could be configured in the future if we will ever get that ability.
Airships can and will pull each other around by the cable and will constantly get pulled to each other (the smaller one being pulled more)unless the cable snaps from the tension, if this happens there is a 50% chance for either the attacker or victim to receive massive damage where the tether is located! (so, if the attacker gets the 50% hit the cable gun explodes, if the victim takes the hit his room where the harpoon hit takes huge damage)
Broken tethers will insta-break the gun, making it useless.
-edit- in the event the weapon hits a crew member it should just throw them outside of their ship!
Boarding clamps in a nutshell: Magnetic clamps that cause two airships to 'stick' to each other acting as one movable unit, this is useful for a lot of things, here are some examples:
Disruption units, cheap fighter-ish ships with good engines and boarding clamps, able to grab enemies and move them around/out of cover/annoy them/force them into the dirt!
Transforming/group ships. Multiple small ships can be used to create bigger allied ships in a battle.
(My favorite:) The "You have no power here" boarder: Uses boarding clamps to make sure its enemy ship can never escape the boarders sent by this design idea unless the clamp explodes!
"Git over here!" ship, combines both of these technologies and flamethrowers/boarders!
If so then crew would just have to aim where their is already a hole, and if not then the ship is probably too heavy for it anyway if its flying with heavy armour installed.
This would make stuff interesting. But the harpoon is little bit to overelaborate. The cable should be released form or cut of the gun if the tension is to high and a crew member is present as a security mechanism. And the Airship with the weaker Engins should be pulled around. A cable also allows both Ships to board each other. And Landships should have a lot more resistance against and strength to pull.

Thoughts and opinions on the matter appreciated!

Oooooh, an excellent idea. Though would the boarding clamp be useless on heavier armour?
Air Lord, Engineering Corps
How so?
-edit- You mean breaching cables?

What I meant was:
Will the harpoon be able to penetrate steel? Or just wood?
Air Lord, Engineering Corps
Would to be very effective if it was only goo vs wooden objects .
Midshipman
this is a awsome idea but sounds like a mod to be
