So while watching a Dev stream the dev made the legs dig a tunnel under the enemy base because the legs were crashing terrain like crazy.
This gave me an idea:what if the dev adds a soem sort of drill piece that can make tunnel or holes were you can hide landships or even take the enemy by surprise.
I don't think underground land/airships would ever be useful, unless bullets will always clip through terrain and even then tunnels are only just ramming guards then.
But for buildings they could be really useful, like having a turret emplacement above ground but with all the crew quarters and ammunitions depots underground.
Perhaps this could provide an isentice for ground troops who could benefit from cover in the future. Alternatively, troops could undermine building integrity, or breach them from the bottom up, taking unprepared opponents by surprise.
Yeah but once infantry start to tunnel and get below ground there is no possible way to then stop them from destroying even your most defended and expensive buildings other than having your own infantry cross the entire Map and follow them down, that doesn't found like fun.
Dig through to the bottom and cause a catastrophic tunnel collapse onto their heads😀. Besides, this could lead to evolutionary tactics, such as burying your emplacements to make it more difficult for them to be reached.
just think about the mines war of ww1,the soldiers were making undergorund tunnels to make the enemy ones collapse, imagine just that there was a command to make the troops to build mineshafts for cover and get in underground bunkers.
This mechanism will make battles a bit longer than 20 seconds...
i don't think that underground bunkers will be to over powered because if you use the troops to make a tunnel directly to the bunker they could destroy it in no time by killing every one inside it.
I like it. I already like partially encasing my buildings in terrain, but it's only a visual thing due to projectiles going through the ground, and the terrain right now can't have air beneath it, so it limits the possibility of making proper holes and building shapes somewhat. The tunnel idea would fix that.

Burying emplacements would just slow them down, buried gun emplacements are just dumb. We need land mines!
Since those can actually stop tunnelong infantry that are pretty overpowered against buildings if they can just collapse them and can't be stopped.
Midshipman
Fair enough. But I think that underground boarding is still a reasonable concept. How about you?
Air Lord, Engineering Corps
Maybe, but there needs to be a counter better than hope they don't do it or spam building guards...
Commander, Engineering Corps
Underground structures would be neato if the underground parts cant get hit.
Would make landscape a valid defense.
ie.
Massive Hill
Build Underground complex of Cannons, with only the first tile hittable, massive defensive boost!
Air Lord, Engineering Corps
I really like that idea! Then maybe boarders can have another use because fortresses like that would be so hard to destroy with normal weapons.

Warrant Officer
So if we add tunnels can I turn my defending soldiers into the Tunnel Snakes?
