Instead of having three separate editors and buttons for every type in every menu, how just having one editor and "type" of ship and applying some rules like:
If it has lift and propulsion, allow it to fly
If it has tracks or legs, allow it to use roads
(and of course anything with neither is a building and cannot move)
Regarding x/y snapping, applying the building rules to anything without suspendium and snapping it to the ground might work?
Really it'd just be neat to have my tank fly up into the sky and bomb the ** outta stuff =3
Indestructible landing gear? Landing gear doesn't exist yet, i meant using the tracks themselves as landing gear for airships!
That way your airships could have a 'fuel efficient mode' if you ground them or still be able to move if the suspendium gets damaged. The disadvantage being that the tracks are heavy for airships so you would need to take that into consideration when designing.
The distinction between buildings, landships and airships is pretty much there for two reasons only:
It causes less confusion for new players.
It's easier for the game to figure out how to treat a construction.
Idea: put all not-technically-for-airships parts into a special category available to airships. So airships become the generic type of contraption, but:
New players aren't instantly confronted with all this extra stuff.
The airship has to be flight-capable (even if badly) which means the game can use airship rules for positioning and fleet movement.
It would definitely be nice to have the ability to ground my airships and still be able to move them, and also land without taking significant damage or using a keel. The fuel efficiency would be bonus.
I like the distinction for the reason you criticize it.
A flying machine should be afraid of crashing on the ground.
A building should be afraid of bombers because it wouldn't be able to move.

Air Lord, Engineering Corps
This could be good to make 'hybrid' ships as well.
For example airships with landing gear OR super light heavy tanks using suspendium!
Midshipman
Lol light heavy tanks XD. i like the idea but it can be easly abused by having a indestructible landing gear with the tracks.

I don't see anything wrong with that idea since it's just adding the landship parts to the airship category, it sounds like that could be easily done.
