currently boarding is still the easiest way to win battles. i did some testing with the barracks and all the diffrent troops.
i tested how many gaurd modules you need to stop each troop:
spider: 1 module (they kill 1-2 gaurds)
barracks: 2 modules, 3 modules to be 100% sure (they sometimes manage to kill 6 gaurds and other they times don't)
grenadier: 5 modules!! and then only 1 gaurd is left
I knew the spider module would be the weakest because it is the cheapest, but currenlty there isn't actully any use for them (except for incredibly weak grenadiers) if you need to capture buildings you are beter off with the normal barrack and they are pretty much useless to capture any airship that is bigger the your starter one.
They could use some sort of buff. maybe they get longer grappels so they actully can board airships that grenadiers can't board from the ground. Or maybe give them some gimmick.
The barracks feel incredibly balanced. they aren't to weak or to strong and are just good troops.
The grenadier are currently the best weapon in the game. they can board easly with the grappels and are incredibly strong. they don't need any extra sailors to work. and you don't need a big ship/landship to even field them. Once you have unlocked these you practicly won the battle. as long as you keep spamming samll airships with grenadiers you can pratically capture anything you want. and this is maybe not a good thing if those titan arts are goign to be introduced.
Now for the landships over sea. currently in the 'campaing' landships are pretty useless if there a lot of island. maybe there should be a system to eather transport your landships over sea by boat. or maybe you could make so that you need airships to lift up your landships to trvale over the sea.
I had this campaing where the last 2 countries i neede to capture where over the ocean. but the problem was that i made my army almost 100% landships. so i sold all my ships and just made and airship to kill the last 2 ones.
I wasn't able to do a 100% landship campaing
Maybe we can implement a system where all the excess lift you get from your airships for example al the meer you get above 100 meter ceiling serives can you use to transport landships. lets say for exapmle per meter you get 10 wieght you may lift.
so for a landship that weights 500 you would need a airship with a service ceiling of 150 to carry it. or 2 airships with a service ceiling of 125. this is just an idea to actully make it possible to complete the campaing with almost a 100% landships. also this would make those gaint suspendium tanks very usefull for cheap transportation of those landships.
I agree with everything you were saying about the troops. Spiders are nearly useless. And grenadiers are kinda overpowered. I think the main thing to note is that using grenadiers destroys all the fun the single player, as those guys especially don't use a lot of guards in the designs and rarely have grenadiers of their own.
I like your idea for air-lifting landships. Although the landships tend to be 1-3x the weight of an airship of the same cost so you'd probably have to build purpose built carrier-lifter ships for your landships. Which i'm 100% in favour of, the more dedicated ships i can build for my flotilla the better!

Aerial Emperor
NB you can move landships across the sea, you just need a friendly port to unpack them at the other end. :)
And it does seem like the differences between troop strength are rather bigger than what I had in mind...
