Well here’s an idea that has been conversed into the dirt by now. Zark has confirmed that these will be post-release content, but that makes me ask- what concepts are being explored here? What is (tentatively?) planned to be added for ships? What would they be like?
For example... would they be cheap? Would they have less requirements to be “ship-editor-friendly” (ie: only needing propulsion vs propulsion and lift)? What would be their role in battle? Would blue water navies be able to traverse rivers? What sort of limitations and variables are being planned to keep their options balanced, since I’d imagine weight is significantly less restricted than it is with landships and airships?
Early speculation suggests water and land wont mix.
Otherwise it's been a user-generated pool of ideas that has metastasized into a series of viable expansions, many could and have been be confused as developer claims.
Water was considered early on because it was funny how a battle over sea resulted on land.
I coin "Sink or Swim" (DOS) during most/all conversations concerning water because the idea of a craft sinking suggests module-based, and in "Sink or Swim" the idea is to save sailors before a submarine module fills with water.
So this is of course all speculation for post-release work on the game, but here's my current thinking:
