It'd be nice to have some crew modules that use hot bunking, they would function like small crew quarters but hold more crew, with the downside of them actually being tired crew that are worse than your normal ones.
This gives the effect of:
allowing for cheaper ships
allowing for smaller ships
but all crew from hot bunked modules are slower and kinda sleep deprived
That would be nice and is a better explanation than 'tired crew'.
There seems to be little incentive for small/cheap airships at the movement as well as for very large ones in my opinion. (cheap ones die quickly/are hard to manage in groups, but very large ones are also fragile/heavy/not too cost effective)
Also with environmental effects this gave me an idea for an effect:
Heat: Desert like conditions gave some air sailors mild heatstroke (in the game programming: some sailors are downgraded to the crappier novice ones on spawn).
Air Lord, Engineering Corps
A minor idea for economy/fighter class airships.

Yeah, I was thinking about a similar idea, with cabin boy/apprentice type sailors, who would be cheaper but worse.

That could be a thing, yes. Status effects are tentatively planned for dev 9. (Because monsters will cause various ones, like terror, poison, etc.)

If it ever is 100% going to be a thing I think you should start a thread for people to come up with things (like I just did).
