So when Zarkonnen posted about torpedoes, he said that the japanese had basically a kamikaze version of it during the war. It got me thinking about how that would work.
If it would work, he could steer the torpedo, which would eliminate a lot of the problems with mobile enemies if you're using torpedoes. Problem is that you'll essentially lose a crewmember every time you fire. So I was thinking you could make a module for them. Probably throwing in they're patriots sentenced to death or some other such explanation about why someone would willingly pilot a torpedo to their death. You'd only have four shots or so and the torpedo can't turn 180, so if it misses it still misses
I feel like you could have it run on normal crew and set a safe limit (so all redundant crew + 1/3 of essential crew), that feels like a good price-tag for what is essentially autoaim.
But spamming crew quarters is bulky, inefficient and expensive if you want to fly at a decent height, if it works anything like the other torpedoes except it is guided you will still not be able to hit people above you/moving around you.
No, I think he's referring to fly by wire torpedoes as in simple computer guided ones, which would be out of the lore worlds technology range.
To get crew members more confident in using the manual ones they could just be equipped with an ejector seat so you aren't completely screwed when someone starts shooting at you/before you smash into something.
And honestly I doubt the spamming of crew quarters helps that guy's ship speed/service ceiling/price tag/size-weapon area ratio (bigger ships tend to have less guns than multiple small ships of the same combined price tag because of the scale factor of square vehicles).
Oh god, wire torpedoes, we already have the string mechanic with the aracnids, maybe we shouldn't replace normal ones but make a whole new weapon for it.

Ya, but then you can just spam crew quarters till you have like sixty auto aims. That's what I'm trying to avoid with the specialised module

Commander
That's a good point, but I don't think your regular sailor is exactly willing to get shot out in a flying bomb and steer it to the boom?
Air Lord, Engineering Corps
Yeah but just like movie logic you can bend video game logic and I doubt anyone would notice.
Commander
I would. That's the dilemma. I live off video games making enough sense and things being friendly to lore.
besides that crew quarters aren't that bulky or expensive. I know someone who spams crew quarters as a ship option believe it or not
Lieutenant
instead of kamikaze torps, why not fly by wire torpedoes? there would cost lots of ammo, and deal great damages, with a 75% chance to hit.
Commander
Wire torpedoes? With the harpoon cannon?

Ahh, didn't know that was an actual torpedo term. Good to know.
Ya, ejector seats could work. Though I think there should be a few malfunctioning parachutes just to make it fun.
I see! I'll do good to remember that
