A ship bay, also called fighter bay, will release a small ship, limited in coal and ammo, that will fly by itself and attack enemies. when almost out of coal or ammo, will return to its mothership to reload/refuel, making its crew running around in the mothership taking what they need. This would be useful for tanks, instead of spamming flak just put a fighter!
how will they look? I tought about a small all-in-one design, that is like 3-4 blocks long and 1 block high. With a smaller cannon or rifleman in front, and a proppeller at the back that is mixed with a suspendium chamber. it looks like this : [prp][col][crw][gun] prp is proppeler/suspendium, col is coal storage AND ammo storag, crew is a pilot and a gunner, and the gun... just make a small cannon.
animation wise, it's simple : some smokes coming out of the rear by an upward facing exaust, and the gunner will run between the ammo [col] and the gun [gun]
the all-in-one engine won't need to be fed manually, and the fighter can catch fire just like any other ship, block by block. I think it it should crash after 2 seconds of engine fire, and the crew will automaticaly abandon ship if it survive the crash. Because it looks cool.
I am also thinking of a bomber! A... let's say, 4-5 blocks long ship, it will look like this :
the gun will be a rifleman, and the bmb is of course the bomb bay!
Even if this sounds fun, it's probably never going to happen, it goes against so many things this game is about and it's probably too much work for just 1 module.

Wow, is this a dream? I can't believe it, and I tought we would never see such a thing for technical reasons, I underestimated the developer! Can't wait to build a flying aircraft carrier!
Aircraft carriers of a sort would be very cool indeed but it will require some careful implementation to avoid throwing the game balance off.
I just hope Zarkonnen remembers that discussion, it's quite old.

I do remember the discussion, and it's still on the todo list for dev 9. It might end up being in like v9.2, but it's planned. :)
v9.0 seems like it's going to be a HUGE update, wouldn't blame anyone if it takes months.

Er, what I MEANT to say was that it might be a good idea to implement different variants of the small fighter plane/ship thing. Maybe all nations started with a Attack plane basic variant but could capture a city to earn a fighter or bomber variant of said plane.
