It would be a really nice addition for dev10 to add hangar/fighter bay's. Each hangar/fighter bay could have 3 AI controlled planes of their respective types. (There would be 3 types) And yes, the names are blatant ripoffs of Battlefield 1 plane types but until I come up with better names that's what there called.)
(This is the only plane open from the start. The rest are locked technology)
Attack Plane
Crew:1
Deals moderate damage to enemy fighters and airships alike with very small splash damage. Slower than the fighter class but harder to shoot down.
Fighter plane
Crew:1
Noticeably smaller and faster than the attack Plane but easier to shoot down. Deals low damage to airships and the like but high to enemy fighters.
Bomber plane
Crew:2
Larger and slower than than the attack Plane but can absorb more damage. Has no main gun like the previous planes but can drop bombs and also has a tail gunner.
Well, that's it for now. People should know this a mere husk of an concept. I have so many good ideas I wasn't able to fit well in this post. I'm completely open to suggestions/criticism and would love to hear some feedback:D
We already had somebody discuss planes a long while back, the verdict was that you would have a very hard time getting a vehicle that has to constantly move to work and look good in Airships battles.
BUT, Zarkonnen has already confirmed he is going to work on this suggestion https://airships.zarkonnen.com/forum/2/topic/332.
Yup, the idea is that biplanes will be like large, flying troops rather than small airships. Still a ways off, though, probably going to be in v9.2 or something. :)
Constantly moving eh? If you find this difficult to imagine in airships simply play the flash game dogfight 2. That right there is everything you need to know for everything to click in place. Also, Zark, rock solid arcade (Dogfight 2's creators) closed in 2012 so you have free reign to mirror it as closely as possible if necessary.
Also I came up with the idea of being able to assign captains to biplanes and then decorating them. So our enemies can see him coming you know? And who the bloody hell doesn't want to do that?!
Exactly my point. Even being pixel art, it would look downright ridiculous to have colorless silhouettes. It would contrast too heavily with the rest of the game.
Biplanes themselves are pretty useless in the world of Airships if you really think about it.
I doubt the technology for winged aircraft would even be invented if people can just mine a floating green crystal out of the ground and tie it to a bunch of wood to fly around.
Suspendium is literally everywhere, it has probably the same cost as dirt considering it makes up a bunch of it.
Small airships that are basically suspendium motorbikes would be much easier to implement (game wise) and fit the world better while filling the same goal as biplanes.
Plus you wouldn't need to worry about making a vehicle like a plane turn around in the battle/create an entire new biplane AI. The gunships would serve the same purpose and not be as complicated.
I'm still quite fascinated by the concept of Suspendium biplanes and seeing as it was my first post, My ideas for it have grown significantly. See how the planes move and then try to imagine it in airships.

This alongside my (and rage3069's) idea?

Commander
As long as there's a monster capable of swatting these out of the sky, a la King Kong, en masse then I think it's a great idea!
Air Lord, Engineering Corps
Actally, the planes could be animated like this (watch how the fighter enemies move):
Air Admiral
Thats plausible. It's a style that would be hard to recreate though.
Air Lord, Engineering Corps
That's probably why they use silhouettes.

Lieutenant
Maybe, but just maybe, we can have... A NORMAL BIPLANE! Why do we need to stuff suspendium everywhere, that thing is expensive.
Air Lord, Engineering Corps

It would make sense to research technology for a small fighter like vessel when all we have is big, lumbering, airships.

I just really enjoy the thought of biplanes in airships.

I love the new biplanes but I honestly wish they could tilt their bodies... Like what's shown above
