These are for alternate customization fighter airships called Gunships.
All of these components do not work if they aren't connected to a properly connected 1x1 Gunship Pilot seat or Connector. These components only activate when decoupled.
Decouplers exist that can transfer crew and detach from their host airship to create two new airships by destroying themselves.
1x1 Gunship seat: works like an uncontrollable 1x1 command block, connects to top for crew entry, must connect to decoupler on that side.
1x1 Gunship engine: works for movement. uses 1 coal per 40 seconds
1x1 Gunship lift chamber: works for lift. uses 1 coal per 40 seconds
1x1 Gunship Autoloader and storage: Stores and Loads coal into the coal requiring components, must be connected to them to work.
1x1 Gunship Connector: acts as extender for the seat to connect more autoloaders and other components.
1x1 Gunship Weapon Controller: Acts as an ammo store and autoloader for directly connected airship weapons.
In effect it creates customizable and compact 'drone' airships that connect to a mothership. To launch a mothership must lose 1 crewmember every time to pilot the drone or it will not function, all of the separate gunships reconnect to the mothership design after combat.
The system of having all parts connected to function should seem familiar and logical to FtD players, that can explain it better.
That all seems well and good... But I still only see it as a more clunky alternative to simply having a fighter bay... Not that I'm against decouplers. I love that idea.
If it worked out well it would be a simple way to create customizable fighters in the same build menu as your normal ships, but a dedicated customizer would be much better in all fairness.
But I guess even something simple like a GSB style fighter customization option would work better too.
Holy crap suddenly I want somebody to make a mod in airships that is just a box that spawns a ridiculous amount of fighters.
"They only have one hangar. How many fighters could they have?" Last words spoken by Captain Manchester before being swarmed by an overwhelming amount of fighters that, realistically, should not have fit into the space given.

That would actually be hilarious to see.
