I'll leave this thread to be used for people to talk about how infantry would fit in the game. Because I really want infantry. My suggestion? Make infantry have the ability to set up ambushes on the roads. I can just imagine catching a landship off guard and completely obliterating it in battle.
Here's how the guiding concept of infantry would work in my mind: they are modules housing infantry with the inability to board ships, but they can fire directly on vehicles at medium range when not climbing, they have the advantage of being able to move fast and come in large numbers.
All infantry modules house a large number of basic riflemen as well as a unique soldier.
A basic infantry module houses 12 riflemen.
The Rocket Infantry module would house 8 soldiers with rifles, one of them having a single use high pierce/explosion rocket launcher.
The Commander module houses 7 upgraded soldiers and a commander with a pistol.
The Sniper module houses 1 medium range high damage riflemen and a spotter that buffs him to long range.
You get the idea.
Infantry aren't meant to be good against landships by the way, you can't dodge feet/giant tracks and neither should they. This gives landships an advantage over airships for once, as the same sniper infantry unit that can maim a small weaponized airship will just get squashed by a fast unarmed landship, for example.
On a side note, for infantry to work good they should be able to be commanded around on the land with some accuracy.
Therefore the ground should be divided into , say, 15 different parts so you can command your troops to move to a specific part of the ground you selected instead of the generic 'terrain' piece like it is now.
Er... What? I think the idea of infantry modules are good and all but I literally had no idea what you meant in you're second post.
EDIT Forget what I said earlier, I re-read you're post and I'm pretty sure I understand. And it does seem like a good idea.
Basically what I mean is that the ground right now is one massive chunk, you click the ground you select everything. That won't do for land units because you won't ever be able to tell them to 'go here', it's just 'go to the ground, nowhere special, anywhere will do'.
If you split the land into a bunch of pieces that are individually selectable nothing changes except you can tell infantry specifically where to stand.
Imagine the land like this: the quotation marks are what you can select, and the dashes represent the terrain.
