Ehem, anyways. Giant mechanical spiders, they are like wolf spiders but have a chain grapple that can hit multiple targets at once as well as a powerful melee attack (front feet do 3x damage, and try to stomp enemy vehicles into oblivion). They carry 3 mechanical spider infantry.
Maybe there could be a variety of large and small fleshcrackers. So the bigger ones would be just like the normal ones but huge. And maybe instead of just one tentacle it could have two. The whole point of building larger ones would be so they could reach air ships. Another option could be to have it actually controlled by minions of the evil scientists.
The small ones could run really fast and jump really high, they would be the size of the people in the game and it would smash through walls and kill as many crew members as they could before they die.
That'd be a good thing too, players with the knowledge of how fleshcrackers work may instead create a distributed boarding defense to counter this ability.
As for the large clankers (side note: holy hell they look awesome I just saw the images for them), we should have a variant with a giant spiked shield and grenade launcher.
The idea of the shield is to deal massive ramming damage at short range to enemies in a powerful shield bash attack. This would be good for making the whole 'ram the monsters' tactic less effective against everything and provide a different challenge.
yeah i like those ideas, especially the ramming part, so far the best tactic to kill monsters is to ram them. I saw your thing about giant clankers, thats a really cool idea and would love to see it in the game (Also what if it opened its mouth and a bunch of long tongues came out and grabbed crew and brought them to its mouth)
Also is zarkonnen making large clankers? If so can you link images?
Air Admiral
This is simply a thread to discuss possible monster variants. Just give suggestions!

Ham dragon, enough said.

Seems fairly good...
Aerial Emperor
For some reason my brain had not stretched to giant mech spiders. I'll probably add them as a type of mad scientist creation along with Fleshcrackers.
So yeah, of course monster variants are somewhat easier to build than entirely new monsters...

I'd like the idea of the leaping fleshcrackers to completely ignore cargo hatches/doors and just jump right through wooden walls and create breaches.
Kinda like FTLs boarding drones.

I have never played FTL. But yeah it would be seem alien to the player because all of his/hers ships were built to protect the supply hatch.
