I am a new player and tougth, that i could learn something from watching the multiplayer-battles. Since a spectrator-mode doesn't exist jet, this wasn't possible...
What i would wish me for the next up-date is a little Observer-Ballon Icon next to the button to enter a room, to enter as a powerless, only the outer-casting seeing, 3rd player.
There are some very simple strategies for fighting:
Make good ships
Position it where the enemy has least guns
Use each ship to their role. A bomber can have a rifle in front but as it is a bomber you want it to have high altitude and good accuracy. If an enemy is in front you want to get above it, not use the rifle.
The game is not always about winning. I for one enjoy creating pretty ships as well as powerful ones.
Every weapon and armor has its strengths and weaknesses. For example heavy steel armor offers great protection but it is hella hard to get the lift high enough for it.
All of these are valid points. However, the first one is a little tricky, good ship building can be complicated sometimes. I recommend browsing thru the Steam Workshop or the ship design forum if you're having trouble.

By a good ship I mean the layout. Ammo nest to gun, coal to lift/propeller.
