There's a thread discussing animation on Steam. Tried to find it for reference, not sure if it still exists or we fell off-topic. That thread basically detailed it's going to be a while.
But lets be honest: it's exactly why I'm here, and secretly hoped it would be the route.
Gladly change that once the game comes out officially. tips hat

Yea, I saw. Look into improving upon completion, and has next to missions, been a primary desire from development. My directives and desires;
Open Java Modding in the Easiest Form Possible.
Troops; and making them as interactive as possible. People want troops; people have always wanted troops. People want troops more than monsters.
Long entertaining storytelling Missions; very detailed levels, and very detailed and easily recognizable objects. PsyPsyche Designs is essentially 1.0 of a huge KIT of potential there. In addition things can be done to the level editor and environment to increase play-ability (to me).
Advanced comprehensive animations. AAA style. Then when it becomes a problem; look into engine fixes, to keep 20fps instead of 3-6.
And the list goes from there, with monsters at the bottom. Multiplayer is somewhere in the middle. I hope one day the game get's the Official 1.0 "go" and developers such as myself can go beyond the simple nature of the modding and into the Minecraft.
My directive is Spiritual Sci-Fi expansion with improvements in nearly every facet. I love airships; but it's missing the stuff to make it... a complete fireball. (sorry Zark)
I'd say Maximize Troops, then progress. But also hoping that it doesn't happen and I get the credit. Food for thought; I'd happily invest 300 hours into 10k downloads and "it should have been there to begin with". -- that saying is what makes a modder tick.
shrug lazy and patient. no rush, but i'll take it if nobody else does. see the "fireball" elements in it, needs to be done.
... yea, Pompeii, no point in modifying the Java outside of the Development circle.
Here, let me explain it. I understand there's a barrier:
Even if I were to change the code; my changes would NOT have ANY UPDATES made to them that reflect in the Native Client. In large work spaces, from hands on experience, Virtual Local Networks are set up in such a way that several testing environments, core builds, and "so on" exist, in unison - not knowing Zarks plans or having his notes puts me in pretty much... worst case coding scenario.
Zarkonnen doesn't publish a "Changes List" to his source. So at ANY POINT his work could overlap mine and my project has hours more, unnecessarily, added to it. Worse yet I wouldn't even know about it. Bugs, crashes, blind spots.
...well, unless I were constantly doing Document Comparisons. But really? That's not entirely realistic, and not an embraced option in an Early Access update state.
I've only seen one other serious Java modder and he's no longer active. That means I work alone, and consider when is best to approach the project. Until another badass shows up...
Hopefully THIS makes sense.
For now I focus on other viral projects and slowly move pins until the next update. I'm glad you two continue to participate in the community and help drive traffic a bit.
...and anybody can rise the ranks using the Story Thread. It's too bad Rank or COA mean... well... you know... anything at all. :P
What I said there is don't participate for Rank. Participate because it matters and you respect it. I'll be around.
edit
Plus I'm trying to recall my overall promotion; you're probably getting the info directly from my mod pages, Pompeii. I've only mentioned my mods a handful of times, and my marketing strategy is a Picasso of planning. Less than 5 outside mentions of any given mod total. Sooo... yea. :)
If someone like me were to show up; my deployments would be different. But considering I hold an entire platform to myself and there's nobody out there planning to do what I'm doing - have absolutely no rush what-so-ever. My payout is bigger, bigger, and better and hotter the longer I wait.
Hard to explain why; could take a degree in psychology && marketing.
To change that would take 1. A 3D Artist (who I wrote the guide for), 2. A Software Engineer (none at all other than Zark), or 3. A Legitimate ModDB competitor - on par or better than my content. Having none... :D
Probably because I started the discussion and they derailed.
Wasn't always known as Psyringe.
Long ago I had an argument with Zarkonnen; before Java modding was officially introduced. My primary driving factor was troops; I used to call the community funny names because of the support for monsters.
It was never my place. Before leaving I erased all those conversations with a huge documentation of the deployment so that when I "returned someday" could just... "do it all again". Funny part was I lost all the data, and Respawn ultimately played my former role.
Quote: I've seen this topic being discussed since before landships were introduced... I just wanted to know why they were gone.
I was answering this question. And yes, I left for the "long jog" of game development, learning first hand exactly what it took to do it myself. Now, with Super Saiyajin hair, I have returned. Lazy. lol
And for the record, my unpublished content outweighs my published content. I merely drip-feed it in favor of numbers. All developers do this.
Oh, well I can answer that question too. It's a completely different question, mate. Can't help but feel the community tries and fails miserably at trolling me; should leave all the trolling to me folks.
This isn't the case I believe. Troops are effective against Landships; the new Aircraft are Troops. What I mean by traditional is...
Sandbags, troops approach them, hide behind them, shoot at oncoming enemy troops, then when given the command, proceed forward to a grassy knoll until they hit some wire; they all die except one. A surgeon manages to dodge every bullet fired at him and he drags the lifeless body back to the hospital where the troop is revived. All on command. Then that troop, with a handful of flamethrower troops, assault rifles, shotguns, and a couple of katanas rush out and easily capture a puny landship that had just squashed those sandbags. Heck; it could be MUD; just INTERACTIVE MUD.
XCOM: Hi; I'm on this terrain; I have this percentage.
The number of elements there are staggering. 90% don't exist in the title. And I could go on for ... days ... in ideas.
Not only is it not the reason; but I'd be willing to invest time into the necessary changes to see it happen seamlessly.
It's a choice. It's a sequel thing, and before water hits I would be done with this modification.
So yea. Maybe it'll happen now, who knows? I'd happily, SO HAPPILY, take the credit for it. lol (but can't do anything yet)
It's on-par with Star Wars for Mount and Blade. On par with with any mod that the game shouldn't be played without; Multiplayer GTA, Auto Lockpick for Elder Scrolls; it's THAT VITAL TO ME. lol
I've tried my hardest to portray that to Zark for over half a decade. Monsters still came first. lol
"retrieves objects", "utilizes environment", "takes hostages", "steals money", "sabotages", "hand-to-hand", "melee", "can fire across multiple rooms", "deflects bullets", "creates shield"... at this point I could read off the back of a Call Of Duty case. lol
...would be even cooler if I could also select and command troops inside ships; but that's beyond the scope.
edit
The new strat? Send in the shield, follow it with the shotgun & katana, perform magic tricks. Lets say landships drive over the shield; now you have a mobile protected TROOP. sigh lol
double edit
Then... once it's all said and done... give em' ranks. Maybe even names. Mourn their deaths. Interactivity; make me feel, make me click. The power of a single trooper will change the entire perspective of this game. The power of the TROOP would DWARF the MONSTER.
triple edit
And, after doing my marketing homework today; A:CTS is suffering demand right now. lol
So there's no harm what-so-ever in considering this closely at the moment. Not unless we're rushing ourselves back into a light, and getting the exact response I've documented here. I think all we've done is increased desire and plan to overlook it; I'm alright with that too. As they say ... "MINE!". ;) #andthebattlezoneplayersgowild
lol not to mention I'd be a lot less likely to throw high ranking officials out of a plane to quickly defeat my enemy. I'd be... a lot more careful about my navigation. I'd cry when losing a module.
I'll never stop doing that until the TROOOPS matter. A "Rank" is "Moral" in that case.
Player moral. The player knows better; the troop need not hold an "opinion".
Then your protecting Quarters. Lose that Quarters, lose your lower ranking officials.
You know, when it comes to morale and all that, perhaps troops could be implemented in expansion 2 (Seeing as it's supposed to focus on fear effects and captains and things like that).
Not for troops. Troops was my one big request, everything else was questions and support.
Once JAVA is open season, and should it get overlooked, my audience would thoroughly enjoy it. I'd make phonecalls. Pound some pavement. It's a vital element; overlooking it wouldn't be a "mistake" per-say; leaving it there.
My only request in concern to this topic is please make the expansion compatible with custom coding; otherwise there could be a risk of a Spiritual Expansion not being compatible with with Official Expansion.
That's an oops. I genuinely concern over this because my interest in comprehensive troops far, far outweighs water - and it could split there. If water complicates it all then it could become SCI-FI vs WATER, and I genuinely dislike the idea. It's overwhelming.
I'm here for troops. It is DIRECTIVE #1; everything else is frosting.
The CTF MODs primary changes in balance revolves around them.
This is assuming. It's all assuming. So... leaving it there... as opposed to there...
edit
I'd also like to state I never was, nor will I ever be, interested in profiting off this title - in advertising or gates or otherwise. That's just not how I function. No patreon, no donations, no contracts. If anything I hope one day it becomes free, maybe in such a way that Minecraft is free. I just see a bigger picture where this game finally gets finished, don't expect that vision to be shared. An artist to the bone marrow.
Air Admiral
Tell me... How goes the effort on Infantry?
Commodore
There's a thread discussing animation on Steam. Tried to find it for reference, not sure if it still exists or we fell off-topic. That thread basically detailed it's going to be a while.
Air Admiral
Could you link it to me?
Captain
I'm still waiting for a weapon to target boarders.....
Aerial Emperor
Having better support for infantry is planned to be the focus of v9.2. :)
Commodore
I found it. It's under the "uniforms be affected by your flag" thread. Would have been impossible to find. lol
Turns out it's on my mod thread.
Here's a link to my mod thread.
Believe that was "ground 0" in terms of announcement.
Hopefully it helps, and not only that, entertains. :D
Air Admiral
So I've heard the bad news... will there really be no infantry? At all?
Commodore
Not likely in the traditional sense, no.
But lets be honest: it's exactly why I'm here, and secretly hoped it would be the route.
Gladly change that once the game comes out officially. tips hat

i havent heard of it until now :/

But I truly don't understand... Why prevent infantry from existing at all? I'm pretty sure they could fit well into the game...

well it is airships conquer the skies, not armies conquer the skies

So basically, since someone interrupted your previous account from speaking about troops, we lost all trace of them?

I meant something more along the lines of "Troops can't be implemented as they are too weak against landships". I guess this suffices though...
Commodore
Oh, well I can answer that question too. It's a completely different question, mate. Can't help but feel the community tries and fails miserably at trolling me; should leave all the trolling to me folks.

So short answer: Nope.
That isn't the reason.
Air Admiral
Heh. Right. Of course.

Standing partially corrected;
That's core actions that have contributed to the troops. But I thoroughly believe that it isn't enough. Interactivity is key.
You can do a bit with this; but it's not fleshy. It's not fully fireball. It's just not... well... complete.
Commodore
"retrieves objects", "utilizes environment", "takes hostages", "steals money", "sabotages", "hand-to-hand", "melee", "can fire across multiple rooms", "deflects bullets", "creates shield"... at this point I could read off the back of a Call Of Duty case. lol
"sandbag", "barbed wire", "quicksand", "suspendium monkey".
It's not done.
"kamikaze hp", "air explosion", "collision explosion".
...cmon'. No way. Months away.
Grabbing units selectively outside of airships?
Seems like a tight request.
...would be even cooler if I could also select and command troops inside ships; but that's beyond the scope.
