Two very important features to the game that have been bugging for a long time. Really useful for the immersion.
ALLIANCE NAMES AND MECHANICS
Really, I like this concept. I really do... But it's definitely a bit rough around the edges. I'm not asking for a full-scale diplomacy system (Even if that WOULD be amazing) but I still beg for a bit more consideration into what an alliance might entail. Basically, assuming my government system is never implemented, we labor under the assumption that were playing some sorta monarchy at best and a totalitarian state at worst... But if so why is their so many damn alliances forming to combat minor powers?! Shouldn't the game simulate the idea of maintain the honor of a royal family alive by remaining unaligned with other nations? Nations should align less often! And the names of said alliances! While the occasional "Golden Alliance" is pretty cool, not every alignment of major powers has "Alliance" in the name. Something like the "Steel League" or "Black Legion" could definitely serve the game when it comes to immersiveness.
Now for something completely different...
CONSISTENT ENVIROMENTS
While I love that airships even includes a weather system, I'd like to take that a step further! Simply put me counter-attacking a city only to find that it's now sunny versus the Icy cold it was five seconds earlier is not very immersive. Maybe we could have so a snowy area REMAINS a snowy area (at least generally) But what would be really cool is if the map actually simulated the north being colder than the south and what not. As in you could actually use the strategic map with it's tiny little icons to tell where an artic region is, and plan beforehand. Perhaps this could even lead to new (And consistent) environments. Deserts are what immediately springs to mind for me!
So there you have it! Any thoughts? Tell me about them below!
Monarchies and totalitarian states are surprisingly capable of joining up when threatened IRL. That said, yeah, the alliance frequency is too high and has been halved for the next beta. I also like the idea of diversifying away from "Alliance" to "League", etc.
Yeah, I have recently had some thoughts and plans about the weather mechanics in strategic. Even worse than what you describe, I think, is that if you get unfavourable weather conditions, you can just flee and re-attack until you get what you want. Which bad: optimal play requiring immersion-breaking tedium.
OK, so, what naming patterns could there be for alliances? Suggestions welcome. Off the top of my head:
I just remembered this thread! Cough. Perhaps a day and night system can also be implemented to the overworld map to keep things consistent. Something similar to the likes of xenonauts...

along with confederation, maybe confederacy?
...thats all ive got
Air Admiral
"Legion"?
Warrant Officer
Federation Bloc Brotherhood
Commodore
brotherhood? well in that case, maybe cult, but both may be more monster nest material
Air Admiral
Yeah, when cultists are implemented!
Aerial Emperor
Note to self: You do not need to procedurally generate the religious tenets of the cults in the game. Even if it would be fun.

Oh, and you forgot mandate as a alliance name.
