I have one fleet that has my original ship and a capture. I want the capture in a new fleet so it can defend cities. These leaves my original to go and capture more things.
I also ended up somehow with an empty fleet. So I would like to delete this empty fleet.
(I suspect I gave the fleet a move order while the ship was being repaired)
To deselect individual ships from a fleet, click on them from the fleet roster on the right hand side of the screen. Selected ships will have a thin gold/yellow outline around them.
I don't know what you can do about 'empty fleets', but I've locked up the game multiple times intercepting a fleet of embarked landships with them, so I probably shouldn't be offering advice about them anyway.
Huh, empty fleets. I did not realize that this was a problem. I will put in a fix to at least delete them when they occur.
If you have a specific sequence of actions that reliably produces empty fleets I'd be very interested.
In general, fleets are meant to automatically split and rejoin. So if you have a fleet with two ships in, you can de-select one ship and order the fleet to go somewhere else, and it will split.

Currently trying the game out.
