Im concerned the registered heraldry + game affects is going to back fire.
First off, having spent 2 decades in a medieval re-enactment club I understand heraldry is meant to be unique to each person.
However, in Airships there are game affects attached to them.
I was very worried as a new buyer of the game to find I could not take my initial heraldry & colour choices. I'm concerned that will affect the multiplayer aspects.
As a new player Im just trying out things. So it would be healthy to change my in game heraldry to find out if say I like hard steel over air torps or the other way around.
The game will be adding more and more people. There is a finite number of heraldry that works. Again, the "best" bonuses will be filled out faster than others.
While one can get more sales with a "hurry now!" there would also be the "don't bother" when the good bonuses are taken.
Haven't tried the multiplayer and not planning to short term. Still getting a feel for the game play.
The bonuses only apply to single player, so multiplayer battles are quite fair.
Uniqueness comes at a price. Would you really want to share the same heraldry with a random stranger anyway?
However, a compromise does come to mind - the server could release a coat of arms for reuse if the owning player hasn't played the game for a year and a day.
So if its just multiplayer eyecandy I think running a "college of heralds" is a bit much.
There are heraldry concerns like family members who buy the game would/should be able to all have similiar ones.
A "clan", if multiplayer takes off, may call for all members to use a common element like a color or shape.
Both of those will cause overlaps in the registration system.

As with other new games if it gets asked on the forums its worth considering adding or improving the explanations in the game. Other new buyers will be prone to the same issue.
it doesn't allow you to set a forum heraldry if a player currently has it. For example, I wouldn't be able to change my heraldry to yours until you change it to something else and no one else has it.

and plus, you can make your own custom heraldry and use a completely different one in single player, your registered one will stay the same.

It just goes to show you can't please all the people all of the time.
You are right about one thing - the dev should highlight the unique heraldry system as "a special, unique, feature" of the game.

Hey brygun, time travelling prophet here; it will eventually be fashion to have no registered heraldry.
But seriously. I just know. :P
Commodore
cough unlikely cough
Commodore
but all jokes aside, heraldry doesn't even matter in multiplayer xD
the only thing that it does is unlock things in conquest, in which any heraldry can be chosen regardless of if its a duplicate of a forum one or not
Air Lord, Engineering Corps
Wait, how does the current system work exactly? Does it care about duplicate heraldry between players as of right now?

Can you unregister it after registration?
ie. Can you go back to this delightful shade of future-grey?
Commodore
no not that i know of
