So I've got a tumblr these days, and have started collecting Dieselpunk art that I find inspiring for the game. My most recent fond discovery is this one:
I'm also very fond of a whole bunch of stuff by Jan Boruta, such as this one:
The turret on the first picture looks like the on a M3 Lee. WW2 tank. I also really like the second one matches the whole suspendium without balloon concept.
@Iwillbenicetou: Might be something to keep the airship flying? Since it's the most unidentifiable and coolest looking thing on that ship. It reminds me of a fusion reactor.
Maybe the ships in Airships could have more pointless detail to tack on in the "decor" tab? Stuff like rigging, smokestacks, masts, anchors, lights, tubes, and tiny flags on poles? rigging could work by clicking two blocks the rope would connect to.
Masts wouldn't really make sense unless there's radio technology in the world of Airships though. Anchors could be used by airships that need to get low, but can't ground because of trees/uneven ground.
Yeah, I like the extra decor. It definitely brings it more to life. Like in Rimworld, there's the clutter mod which makes things look more personalized.
Oh wow i loved the Leviathan trilogy, i still have the manual of aeronautics!
-edit- And assuming you have read the book(s), Zarkonnen do you reckon we will see any military beasties (and not just monsters who could care less for who is on who's side of a conflict) in the future of Airships Conquer the Skies?
"and realizing it now, zark already posted a link to it btw"
Eh, not quite. He posted a link to the same artist, but his deviantart gallery doesn't appear to have the same art as his website. There's some overlap, though.
I could be wrong, I haven't checked both galleries to see how different, if at all, they are. It just seems to me like they're not quite the same.

blitznatch on the JGO forums has pointed me at two excellent sources of inspiration:
Leviathan, which contains such pretty landships as this one:
And the Edge Chronicles, whose airships are held up by suspendium-esque flight rocks:
Captain, Engineering Corps
That is some pretty nice DieselPunk

Wow! Fantastic images. Do you plan on adding dieselpunk land vehicles like the ones above in airships?
Aerial Emperor
Yep, it's in the plan. :D
Aerial Emperor
Another excellent dieselpunk airship that wandered across my dash.
Captain, Engineering Corps
Guns galore! What is the blue circle on the side?

Monkey-Paw on DA also does some very nice airships and walkers.
Captain
Oh. wow. So many awesome pictures here. This is wonderful.
Able Airman
Aerial Emperor
This one by Slawomir Maniak is the best airship painting I've seen yet.
Captain, Engineering Corps
Prepare to man the helm.
Commander
You should check out some of the illustrations from larklight by Phillip Pullman

This arguably doubles for being another airship game too. I quite like this splash screen art for Highlands:

Time to bring this topic back from the dead because I found...
A thing.
Yes, you read that right. A thing. A really nice a thing. A thing you should check out. It's a very check-outable thing.

The artist from Leviathan?
Those are quite cool looking. I especially like the Walkers.
