I agree, that seems like a fair trade/good flaw for having high damage and a burst fire rate as opposed to Gatling guns and heavy cannons that are on either side of the spectrum but have an average firing angle.
The main problem is the way reloading works in this game. Each gun has a reload timer that times how long between shots is.
however. it doenst have a timer for how long a clip takes to reload, clips reload instantly. as soon as a crewman returns with ammo, the module is reloaded, because the reload timer only times between shots.
essentially this means weapons with clips like the barrage have a massive advantage being placed closer to an ammo store. but it also means its the only way for the guns rate of fire to be tweaked effectively with a rapid fire weapon.
Could you make up for the time by making the room difficult for crew to enter? (extend the room backwards and make it a winding corridor/just make it longer for now?)
well you can, but thats upto the person building the ship. which... is really annoying because it takes control away from me the modder. and gives it to the user who probably will complain about its op-edness.
if its op, its user error :P
anyhow. anyone know how i can add custom muzzle flashes? ive got a lightning spark for my railgun and cant find a way of using it :<
Yay! I tried out your mods, and I like them. Extending the same offer as to everyone else: if you have any questions at all about modding, email me or add me as a friend on Steam.

Heres where I think i might link the things I have on the steam workshop. because whyyyy not?
Up Cannon
Barrage Cannon
Currently working on:
Mega Suspendium Railgun.
Pretty much done but it just takes out individual tiles when you shoot ships with it, no area of effect damage is annoying.

I was just messing around with the Barrage Cannon and wow, the core game really needs a weapon like this! Good job on balancing.
It reminds me of the first time I found a flak weapon in FTL, it was awesome!

I was thinking about narrowing the firing angle a little. but i might leave that till I give it a second visual pass. needs to be flippable too

im assuming this will get fixed eventually.

Also, clip reload time as a separate value is an interesting proposition, thanks.

Can't wait to see the railgun. Clip reload sounds pretty useful.
