What sort of ship styles do you guys build with, because I try to build thin ships with pike noses and I want to know what I'm up against. Images coming soon :).
I tend to build ships with a central internal corridor for running through. I also have a tendency to make them as close to perfect rectangles as possible, which means my ships always look realllly boring.
For larger ships I normally design with a 'self contained sectors' or redundant systems idea in mind, where each sector only contains related modules and usually has fire doors on the exits and scaffolding around it for support, with the most important modules closer to the centre of the design.
The ships tend to be particularly resistant to fire and large explosions that would normally destroy most other designs but crew response time is a little bit bad.
Does any of you make ships with suspendium containers on the inside surrounded by fire doors? I've been looking into the designs but can't understand if they're worth it.
I've experimented with that idea, but the amount of protection they need to keep them from spontaneously combusting makes the whole ordeal not worth the effort. And in the end, your ship will look like a brick.
I love your ships Caesar! I haven't made the best ships ever, and I need to work on my design. I also find myself trying to cram every subsystem in possible, resulting in bigger and bigger ships. These then cost more, and you get the picture. I tend to keep to Zark's design's, yet trying to have a bit more angled approach.
With the new update it's almost impossible to build decent large ships due to the structural integrity debuff. I've leaned away from larger vessels and more towards smaller ships with a specific role.
When it comes to combat effectiveness very small ships and medium sized bunkers are the way to go. Haven't seen a single large ship that I thought was superior to small vessels.
Have seen some large bunkers be fairly effective, especially in long drawn out bunker vs bunker slug fests

For my bigger vessels, I tend to build rather tall ships with a "shark" themed nose
My smaller frigates and such tend follow some of the same trend.

I've started making huge ships each with a specific purpose but I don't use landships because they're too one dimensional
