I was playing around with designing a very basic but fast boarding craft and as I got a design that I liked, it kind of evoked thoughts in me of the very minimalist early US submarine, the H.L. Hunley from the American Civil War. Just KIND of - in case any historical buffs are thinking of raking me over the coals. So that's what I named them - in this case HMS Hunley instead of H.L. in keeping with the game.
The two airships in my collection are both small, light, highly maneuverable craft designed to get in close to enemy ships in a hurry. Unlike the original which was basically supposed to be a human powered limpet mine, both of my vessels have a detachment of marines for boarding. Very much like the original H.L. Hunley, if you don't get in close to the enemy quickly, you'll be blown to bits as these airships both have very little HP and armor.
My original ship, the HMS Hunley is an unarmed version that has a slightly higher service ceiling and speed.
HMS Hunley
HMS Hunley 2.0 swaps some of the service ceiling and speed for a deck gun and small ammo cache to take pot shots at enemy airships during boarding.
HMS Hunley 2.0
I have tested both out extensively and you need to get them into position really quickly and waste no time boarding. Move them around as you do to keep them alive. These two ships are always best deployed in fleets with other, much larger ships to attract gunfire.
Hope you enjoy these ships as much as I did designing them and please let me know what you think.
