I was building again and wen testing i was missing two things.
A mode that goes from design screen directly to testing combat, quick without sellecting stuff and the numbers of the ship in action like hitpoints of damage taken and dealing damage.
The HP is actually a good idea, but I find that the HP thing is per room. Each room has its own health. There is no overall hp for the ship, unless you mean the combined HP of all the rooms? You can check the rooms HP in overlay. Keels and struts and certain other things increase room hp.
A debug enemy with infinite HP would be nice, it could be used to give a DPS rating for ships.
This could be expanded into a little system for giving ships a combat rating by basically seeing how much damage they can do in a time frame, or how much damage they can take from an enemy that slowly ramps up it's attack power.
Havnt though a bout a combat rating but that sounds also possibly usefull for mission making or a different matchup system other than money for multiplayer.
Test mode: infinite ammo and coal, one enemy building that is immortal. see how much damage you can do in a certain time frame. Would work with limited ammo and coal too, to see how long a ship can last.

Overall ship testing is rather hard now unless you want to do conquest and such repeatedly many timws
